International Women’s Day is a day of reflection on the importance Women have in society, communities and the WORLD. Be Bold for Change is this year’s theme for International Women’s Day which was celebrated around the globe on Wednesday March 08th. Everyone plays a part in helping drive better outcomes for women and this is a key message that Fiji Gas believes in.
In the past, the perceived nature of the LPG industry in Fiji, generally, was such that majority of the workforce needed to be male.
However, as times changed and over the past several decades, Fiji Gas has been working towards a more gender balanced workplace. This is key for the company’s People Talent and Development Pillar. The company is in the process of finalizing a female apprentice in the company’s refurbishment department, a first for Fiji Gas. While Fiji Gas has a higher percentage of women in its finance and administration teams, they are committed to providing more inclusive opportunities like this in its trade and service teams.
International Women’s Day is also a day to celebrate the success of women around the world and to value the contributions women have made. In the words of Maya Angelou, “How important it is for us to recognize and celebrate our heroes and she-roes!”.
Fiji Gas is proud to celebrate one of its very own young she-roes today, who holds the title of Finance Manager, a very significant and key role in a very sizeable organization.
Ashmeeta Singh is Fiji Gas’ Finance Manager. She is 27 years old and has been with the company since 2015. She has received the Fiji Institute of Accountants Prize for Most Outstanding Graduate with the major in Accounting and ORICA Fiji Ltd and Housing Authority Prize for Most Outstanding Graduate with a major in Information Systems. Ashmeeta hopes to be an inspiration to other women in business.
She offers these words, “Life is full of challenges and to be successful you should have confidence in yourself and be consistent in what you do. Nothing can be achieved in today’s competitive world if you do not strive for excellence in whatever you do. To all the women out there, work hard and be focused in life to achieve your dreams and aspirations; only you have the power to control your destiny.”
