Fiji Gas made a generous donation this morning of FJD$10,000 towards the Fiji Red Cross Society Tropical Cyclone Winston Appeal.
Fiji Gas CEO, Hans Reiher said “As a Fiji company, we have a sense of duty and responsibility to give back to our people in their greatest time of need. This donation is to assist with the recovery efforts by the Fiji Red Cross around the country.”
Director General Filipe Nainoca acknowledged the kind donation made by the company this morning and said that the donation would be used to provide necessities to those that have been affected by the recent cyclone.
Fiji Gas has also offered its delivery vehicles to transport materials and relief supplies for Red Cross to areas in the western parts of Viti Levu where it will be handed to volunteers currently encamped in the affected areas.
The donation was made following recent assistance by Fiji Gas to Koro Island over the weekend in the form of donations of cooking gas and stoves to several villages. Fiji Gas is working closely with the Fiji Government and DISMAC and will set up cooking stations for evacuation centres in affected areas throughout Fiji. Mr. Reiher went on to say, “We want to contribute to rebuilding the communities affected by TC Winston and have begun by supplying the villages of Koro with proper cooking equipment and gas. We hope that through this, it has made their lives a bit easier.”
Fiji Gas first began supplying gas to Fiji in 1956. It has grown into the largest LPG Company in the Pacific islands.
